End of an era: Live well -being entrepreneurial women in the craft!

The Cochem-Zell region is experiencing a drastic change: the working group of entrepreneurship in the craft (UFH) is dissolved. The last meeting took place on January 20, 2025. This marks the end of a 25-year history that began with the establishment of the working group by five women from the region. Their goal was to network and master challenges together, among other things by supporting your partners in your own craft businesses, especially with administrative tasks.

This initiative was not only a social meeting point, but also an important mouthpiece for women in the craft. The UFH always emphasized that craftsmanship is also a women's work and thus represented an important contribution to equality in professional life.

meaning of the networks

The cooperation of women in the craft has proven to be extremely effective. According to the information from UFH, the position of women in this sector can be strengthened through targeted networking and further education. Around 5,000 members are active throughout the Federal Association, which have set themselves the task of making the craft sustainable and innovative. Political changes and the promotion of social and emotional skills are in focus.

An important finding is that around 75 percent of all craft companies are family businesses that are led by men and women. This illustrates the potential that lies in equal cooperation.

women in the craft: statistical insights

A look at the current numbers shows a growing influence of women in the craft sector. In 2023, 24.6 percent of women had already been co -founded or managed. This is significant progress, because women take a variety of roles in the industry, from entrepreneurs to successors. The turnover of the craft was an impressive 640 billion euros in 2019, whereby women have a significant share in it.

The proportion of women among the trainees, which was 14.1 percent in 2023, was particularly exhausted, with creative and health -oriented professions showing a greater presence. The professions with the highest women's shares include:

  • tailor: 86.1 percent
  • confectioner: 85.0 percent
  • goldsmith: 72.9 percent

but also in commercial and technical professions in which women are traditionally underrepresented, an increase can be observed. Statistics show an increasing number of young women who choose professions such as motor vehicle mechatronics engineers, carpenters and electronics. At the same time, the proportion of women in health crafts such as dental technology is 64.4 percent.

These developments not only illustrate the increasing influence of women in the craft, but also the unused development potential in many areas. Overall, it can be stated that the commitment and cooperation in the craft for women represent important steps towards equality and recognition.

In summary, it can be said that the dissolution of the working group represents the end of an era, but can also symbolize the beginning of new possibilities for women in the craft. The spirit of networking and the joint management of challenges will certainly continue to live in the hearts of the former members and in the future of the craft.
