Bike tour for a good cause: 15 kilometers for the hospice in Rockenhausen!
In May, the Donnersbergkreis region awaits a special event that not only serves the joy of cycling, but also a good cause. On Saturday, May 17th and Sunday, May 18, the Protestant parish organizes a bike tour under the motto "Through the Old World with bike and deed". The event takes place in the community center in Teschenmoschel and serves as a donation tour in favor of the inpatient hospice in Rockenhausen.
The route leads over 15 kilometers with 200 meters from Wolfsmühle to Ransweiler, Schönborn and Dörrmoschel. Interested cyclists can take part here with different bicycles, be it racing bike, mountain bike or e-bike. The helmet obligation is mandatory throughout the event. Special features such as the possibility of driving any number of rounds and setting up an additional walking and running route of about 4 kilometers make the event particularly versatile.
participation and donations
A new aspect this year is the possibility for participants to register in teams. The team that makes the most rounds per person is awarded. Participants can acquire voluntary personal sponsors for their rounds, but there is no obligation to pay a starting fee. The donations will be paid in cash on site. The start times are on May 17 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on May 18 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. At dusk or darkness, lighting on the bike and wearing a warning vest are prescribed.
Additional information can be obtained from the Protestant parish "Zur Old World" on 06361-1758 or by email to parish office.doerrmoschel@evkircheppalz.de.
benefits in the region
While the bike tour in the Donnersberg district is locally oriented, there is also a remarkable event in the Göppingen district at the same time: the Tour de Kreisle. 60 cyclists take part in this campaign who visit town halls, companies and institutions. The daily stages vary between 60 and 80 kilometers and largely run over cycle and forest paths. Against the background of security, the number of participants is limited to 60 cyclists, and only e-bikes may be driven, also under helmet.
Klaus Riegert, the initiator of the Tour de Kreisle, accompanies the participants, whereby an active or former athlete in the district supports the group. Since then, this benefit event, which was launched in 1998, has been pursuing the goal of collecting donations for social purposes and supporting the Faurndauer Hospiz and the new hospice in Geislingen.
The Faurndau Hospiz, which has been in operation since 2013, has celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, with 850 guests being looked after by specialists and volunteers. The planned new buildings in Geislingen are to expand the existing capacity and are planned for 2026, whereby the costs are estimated to be six million euros.
The events in the Donnersbergkreis and in the district of Göppingen impressively show how community and love for sport can be combined with the commitment to social concerns. Both the bike tour "Through the Old World with Rad and Tat" and the Tour de Kreisle offer the participants the opportunity to actively do good and at the same time to explore the region.
