New bike service stations in the Palatinate: Support for cyclists!
The ADAC is committed to promoting cycling in the Palatinate and announces the establishment of bike service stations. The first stop will be inaugurated on April 23 in Lohnsfeld, followed by a second station in Sippersfeld, the opening of which is planned for April 25. This initiative meets the increasing use of bicycles for leisure and professional trips. As early as 2024, four stations were opened in Contwig, Maikammer, Freinsheim and Schifferstadt to offer the cyclists in the region.
The new bike service stations in Donnersbergkreis are an important step to help cyclists such as a flat tire or a torn chain. The bright yellow repair columns are one and a half meters high and equipped with high -quality tools, including foot air pumps, tire lifts and different tool keys. They are intended for smaller repairs on bicycles, strollers, skateboards and wheelchairs and are available to all users around the clock-without the need for ADAC membership. Volunteers of the ADAC Pfalz and other clubs will take care of the condition of the stations, whereby the local municipality of Lohnsfeld takes over the maintenance of the station in Lohnsfeld, as rheinpfalz.de reports .
initiations and support
The official initiations are accompanied by representatives of the ADAC and local politicians. To celebrate the new stations, demonstrations are also planned to use the cycling service stations, in which an ADAC street watch driver will be present to show the bicycle breakdown aid. This breakdown aid was first introduced in June 2022 and is free of charge for ADAC members. In the period until September 2023, 18,638 missions were recorded. On a single day, May 28, 2023, there was the highest number of bicycle breakdowns in one day with 111 missions, such as ADAC.de
The ADAC bicycle breakdown help offers comprehensive support for breakdowns. This includes transporting the bike to the next workshop or to a desired location, as well as the rescue of the bicycle and luggage. However, use is only possible if the bike has been damaged by an accident or has a breakdown. However, no help is offered for commercial bicycles or in countries outside of Germany. In addition, the ADAC does not offer any support for unlocked bicycle locks without a key. The aim of these initiatives is to meet the requirements of changing mobility, since the demand for cycling is continuously growing both as a means of transportation and leisure activities.
breakdown statistics and prevention
The statistics of the ADAC bicycle breakdown help shows that the vast majority of the breakdowns are due to tire damage. 69 % of the breakdowns are due to this type of damage, while 8 % are due to chain problems, 2 % to brakes and circuits and also 5 % to electrical problems, especially for e-bikes. Various tips for avoiding breakdowns are offered for cyclists. This includes the use of breakdown protection tires and regular control of the tire pressure. The ADAC also recommends that the bicycle regularly wait at the specialist dealer in order to identify possible defects at an early stage.
Overall, the new bike service stations in the Palatinate reflect the growing need for efficient support for cyclists and contribute to increasing the security and use of bicycle in everyday life. The initiations and the comprehensive breakdown aid service of the ADAC are positive steps in the right direction.
