Training for security advisors: protection for seniors in Bellheim!

On April 7 and 8, 2025, the Rheinpfalz police headquarters will organize a training course for the training of security advisors for senior citizens. This training takes place in the town hall of the Bellheim community and is open to all interested country farmers who want to volunteer for the security of older people. The aim of this initiative is to effectively protect older people from crime by education. According to the website of the city of Landau, current information about fraud stitches will be provided during the events and information stands to sharpen the security awareness of the elderly.

At the moment there are already 12 volunteer security advisors in Landau. Interested people can register with Ulrike Sprengling, the urban representative for the concerns of older people, by February 20, 2025. The contact can be made by phone at 0 63 41/13 50 16 or by email to ulrike.sprengling@landau.de. In addition, more information about the possibilities of volunteering and training is available.

protection against crime

Security advice for senior citizens not only offers training, but also provides free information about crime and traffic safety. This is done in close cooperation with police stations and municipalities. The program supports prevention events and public relations to advise seniors individually, for example in lectures or citizens' talks. The Hessian police have provided a national information material since 2023 to increase the protection against crime and the feeling of security of the older fellow citizens.

A central aspect of this security counseling is to point out that older people are rare victims of crimes, but often feel threatened. Especially trick thefts in which perpetrators use diversion and deception maneuvers are a relevant risk. The security advisors are typically over 50 years old and receive extensive training to provide the seniors with important information about crime forms and potential risks.

commitment and requirements

For voluntary commitment as a security consultant, the interested parties not only need time resources, but also flexibility, mobility and a good intellectual constitution. It is also recommended to have knowledge of dealing with communication media. People who are interested in this important social commitment can find out more about further information and application documents from the responsible prevention center. The focus is on assisting the older citizens with advice and action and conveying a feeling of security. While the security advisors actively share information, the neutrality in its advisory activity remains of great importance.

Overall, the initiative shows how important the protection of older people in society is and how the crime victim quota can be reduced through targeted training and consultations. The program "Security advisors for seniors" is an essential part of the police prevention work and is supported in various regions to create a safe environment for seniors. Interested parties can find more information on this on the website of the Hessische police as well as on the Police Lower Saxony .
