Kaiserslautern introduces the yellow bin: away with the plastic bags!
From April 2025, waste disposal in the city center of Kaiserslautern will be redesigned. The new regulation provides for the introduction of the yellow bin, which means that the previous yellow sacks are abolished. This was officially announced on February 17, 2025, and the city administration has given the company Jakob Becker Enterorgungs-GmbH to provide around 16,000 gray containers with a yellow lid. This bin will not only represent a uniform solution for the disposal of light packaging, but should also contribute to reducing deposits and impurities. The appealing longevity of the container compared to the previous sacks is also emphasized as an advantage.
The distribution of the yellow tons begins today and runs until the end of March 2025. The citizens are advised to put the new containers on their property after receipt. This measure is intended to help the ton go into common use faster. The first waste containers are first issued in the timeline and at the Volkspark before further urban areas follow. In March 2024, the work committee of the cityscape care Kaiserslautern approved the introduction of this new disposal method after a representative customer survey in early 2023 showed that the majority of citizens are for the yellow bin and against the yellow sack.
Details for waste separation
The yellow bin offers space for eraser packaging that does not consist of paper, cardboard, cardboard or glass. Materials such as aluminum shells, yoghurt cups, cans and plastic bags are permitted. However, toothbrushes, children's toys, diapers and residual waste are not permitted. These regulations are part of the dual system, which plays a central role in German waste management and contributes decisively to the recovery of valuable materials. All necessary information on waste separation is available on the Jakob Becker website.
The collection, transport and the sorting of the waste are commissioned by the Dual System Zentek and are carried out by Jakob Becker. The system is financed through the product purchase and not through the waste fee. The collection and emptying of the yellow bin and the yellow sacks are carried out every two weeks. The dates are available in the personal waste calendar. If the container size adaptations, citizens can contact the contact directly by email-the contacts are available at Gelbetonne-kl@jakob-becker.de.
ecological progress and support of the citizens
The introduction of the yellow bin is not only a step towards uniform waste disposal, but also a significant progress in the area of environmental protection. Change towards a more efficient recycling system is supported by legal framework conditions such as the 1991 packaging regulations, which transfers responsibility for recycling packaging waste to the economy. These measures are part of the efforts to improve recycling rates and thus ensure sustainable use of resources.
Overall, surveys and initiatives show that the citizens of the region are willing to actively participate in the improvement in waste management. In a recent online survey, around 7,000 citizens from the district of Germersheim expressed their opinion on this topic. The city administration and the company Jakob Becker together bring information campaigns to ensure that all citizens are informed about the new regulations and their advantages.
