Students learn in Kandel: This is how the crash course protects against accidents!

On January 30, 2025, the “Crash Course” took place in the Kandel town hall, which was aimed at 180 students from the integrated comprehensive school Kandel (IGS), which is about to acquire their driving license. The aim of this event was to bring the dangers of traffic accidents closer to the participants and their far -reaching consequences. The course was moderated by the police officers Lena Wolff and Lukas Kern, who informed in several lectures on serious accident scenarios and their effects.

In the course of the "crash course", urgent film screenings were shown, which included recordings of accidental vehicles and the most common causes of accidents such as alcohol, drugs and distractions by cell phones. It should be emphasized that according to ADAC young drivers aged 18 to 24 years cause around 60 percent of traffic accidents. The main causes are therefore fatigue, excessive speed and not putting the seat belt, which the course impressively illustrated.

an impressive program

A central element of the event was a case study of a serious accident that occurred on the K15 in 2021. The lecturer, police officer Marc Düring, described his experiences on the day of the accident when an 18-year-old driver overtook in fog and thus seriously injured two people. The paramedic Florian Wagner emphasized the urgency of a quick medical care and the challenges with which the emergency services are faced.

The emotional aspects were also reinforced by lectures by emergency pastors: inside and relatives who reported on the deep mental injuries that left such accidents. The event also showed that bereaved often have to struggle with anger and grief, as the relatives of a young driver who had an accident described it impressively. These perspectives make it clear that there is a violation of the standard behind every traffic accident.

interactive elements and student opinions

The course also included interactive exercises in which the students could use their cell phones to share their wishes, which were then displayed on a large screen. This served not only the sensitization, but also reflection on one's own dreams and goals. The end of the course was a symbolic gesture in which official Wolff had a balloon bursting to illustrate the fragility of dreams.

The feedback from the students for the "crash course" were consistently positive. Valentin and Louisiaena reported that the course had changed their attitude to driving and would now like to act more responsibly in road traffic. This positive feedback is based on the findings of Rheinland-Pfalz police who point out that participation in the "Crash Course RLP" changes the behavior of young drivers in the road.

Overall, the data and descriptions collected show that traffic safety plays an essential role, especially for young drivers whose vulnerability is often underestimated in road traffic. The "crash course" therefore pursues the important goal of clarifying such dangerous misunderstandings and strengthening responsibility in dealing with your own vehicle.
