Maimarkt 2025: Discover the treasures of the southern Palatinate in Mannheim!

The Südpfalz-Tourismus district Germersheim e.V. will present itself on April 26, 2025 on the renowned Maimarkt in Mannheim. The event, which is open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. to May 6, 2025, offers a lot of information for visitors, including cycling and hiking trails and a variety of leisure tips.

The stand of the region is located in Hall 35, which is considered the hall of the metropolitan region. Together with the Terra Sigillata Museum Rheinzabern, an attractive offer is provided, which includes free materials such as cycling cards, adventure leaders and hiking brochures. There is also a program flyer entitled "Radel to the Museum" that invites visitors to explore tours.

The Terra Sigillata Museum Rheinzabern

A special institution in the region is the Terra Sigillata Museum in Rheinzabern, which shows more than 1,000 exhibits in the daily life of the Romans in the ancient settlement Tabernae. The settlement is one of the elders in the Palatinate, and ceramic production there began there around 120 AD. Wonderful Terra-Sigillata ceramics, known as the "Porcelain of the Romans", were manufactured here in impressive annual quantities of up to 1.5 million vessels.

Thanks to optimal location factors such as raw materials, transport connections and sales markets, production in Rheinzabern flourished until the 4th century. The vessels were sent to Britain and the Black Sea through extensive sales channels. Around 750 name stamps and 1,000 names of the names, some of which are laid down, prove the lively manufacturing activities.

The educational offer of the museum

The museum, which was founded in 1978 and is now supervised by a volunteer association, also offers school classes, individuals and groups and clubs the opportunity to learn more about antique ceramic production. In addition to an exhibition in the main building, the museum has a branch with protective buildings that illustrate the fires and the manufacturing process.

Visitors can look forward to accessible access, and admission is free for the owner of the Pfalzcard. This shows the commitment of the museum to make education and cultural heritage accessible to everyone and to promote understanding of the Roman lifestyle.
