Funding million for track field renewal in the Elmsteiner valley!
Funding million for track field renewal in the Elmsteiner valley!
In the Elmsteiner valley in Rhineland-Palatinate, a significant step was taken to renew the railway infrastructure on February 21, 2025. Transport Minister Katrin Eder handed over a funding notice of 130,000 euros to Kuckucksbähnel Bahnbetriebs GmbH. This subsidy is part of the state funding of around 128,000 euros, which was provided for the volunteers of the cuckoo bahnel and helps to modernize the historical railway line.
The funds provided are used to the track field renewal of a 320 meter long section between Erfenstein and Breitenstein and for the renovation of two important level crossings. The measure includes the exchange of the thresholds used since 1886 and the rails installed since 1907. These rails and thresholds were originally used on the route between Neustadt and Kaiserslautern before they were used in the Elmsteiner valley.
planned measures and financing
The total costs of the structural investment amount to 260,000 euros. The remaining costs are financed by the Lambrecht Association, the city of Neustadt and the district of Bad Dürkheim, each of which contributes an equally large part. This shows the commitment of the local community for the preservation and improvement of the railway infrastructure.
The construction work is scheduled to begin in October 2025, after the regular driving season of the cuckoo bay, which promotes between 25,000 and 30,000 passengers annually. The implementation of the work is taken over by a team of volunteers of the Neustadt railway museum, which underlines the importance of voluntary help in this project.
important participants and outlook
to hand over the funding notice were present several important personalities, including Mayor Marc Weigel von Neustadt an der Weinstraße and Gernot Kuhn, Mayor of the Lambrecht community. In addition, members of the Neustadt railway museum were present, including Ralf Rudolph as chairman, to support this symbolic act.
The Federal Railway Authority (EBA), which monitors the approval for federal grants for rail infrastructure, ensures that the financial resources are actually used for the well -being of rail transport infrastructure. Through strict exams before and after the middle provision, the EBA ensures that the funding provided are used effectively.
Overall, the measures for track field renewal are an important step not only to maintain the historical railway line, but also to support regional mobility and tourism in the picturesque Elmsteiner valley. The project illustrates how public and private initiatives can be combined to create sustainable traffic solutions.
