Definition of the bomb in Kaiserslautern: great evacuation successful!

In September 2024, a 250-kilo aviation bomb from the Second World War was defused in Kaiserslautern. The bomb was found during construction work on the former site of the sewing machine manufacturer Pfaff. Due to the potential dangers, numerous people had to leave their apartments and houses. Around 200 people were evacuated and had to stay with friends, families or in a supervised facility from 8:30 p.m.

The defusing by the ordnance clearing service lasted three and a half hours and was difficult, with no further details about the complexity of the process. The city decided to make the bomb harmless as quickly as possible in order to ensure the security of the residents, as SWR.de reported. Some commercial and industrial companies also had to be cleared during the defusing. The rail traffic was also affected, but could be resumed after the work was completed.

other events in September

In addition to the bombing, there were various local events in Kaiserslautern in September. For example, elementary school students from Rodenbach met 50 years after their schooling. A 9/11 Stair Climb took place in the Fritz-Walter Stadium to commemorate the rescue workers of the World Trade Center, and a children's festival was celebrated on the Betzenberg. In addition, the cabaret artists "die unimues" announced the end of their series of events. The Weilerbacher Kerwetage and the North Palatinate farmers market in Schneckenhausen also delighted visitors with happy faces.

The month was not only shaped by happy events: several deaths were reported, including the find of a 20-year-old in their apartments and the death of a joggers in the Eselsbach valley. A fatal traffic accident on the B48 and a woman who was recorded by an ICE at the Hochspeyer train station were further tragic incidents. A fire in an apartment building and a seriously injured young man with memory gap also contributed to the negative headlines of the month.

Seen in terms of sport, the 1. FC Kaiserslautern had to accept a 3: 4 home defeat against Hertha BSC, which initiated a negative series of five games without victory. Trainer Markus Begin is exposed to the pressure to lead the team out of the crisis. In the second round, the FCK is required against Stuttgart.
