Kaiserslautern's big upheaval: Who stays, who is coming?

On April 19, 2025, the 1. FC Kaiserslautern actively plans the squad composition for the upcoming season in the 2nd Bundesliga. Managing Director Thomas Hengen and sports director Marcel Klos are significantly involved in the management planning. The association is in the race for promotion to the Bundesliga, which significantly complicated the decision -making in the squad design.

In the past few weeks there have been some changes in the squad. The FCK is happy about the return of three players: Richmond Tachie changes from Eintracht Braunschweig, Jannik Mause comes from SpVgg Greuther Fürth and Dickson Abiama returns from TSV 1860 Munich. These new additions should strengthen the squad and ensure a fresh wind.

departures and departure candidates

Despite the positive obligations, the 1,1th FC Kaiserslautern also sees itself faced with some exits. Maximilian Bauer and Tim Breithaupt have already left the club towards FC Augsburg, as did Daisuke Yokota, who switched to Kaa Gent. Grant-Leon Ranos will join Borussia Mönchengladbach. Breithaupt and Yokota belonged to the regular team of coach Markus Beginning, which makes their departure particularly painful.

In the fan base, there are hopes that Breithaupt and Yokota may remain in the club beyond the summer. Filip Kaloc, an important midfielder, could also leave the club if the ascent would not succeed. Other departure candidates on the list are Ragnar Ache, whose path could possibly lead to Italy, as well as Afeez Aremu and Aaron Opoku.

possible reinforcements

In order to compensate for the departures, the club management has an eye on possible new additions. Among the names that are mentioned again and again, Oskar Zawada from the RKC Waalwijk, Evagoras Charalampous from Anorthosis Famagusta, Yaroslav Karabin by Rukh Lviv and Jakob Lemmer by SG Dynamo Dresden. So far, however, no official transfers have been confirmed by the club.

The 1st FC Kaiserslautern, founded in 1900, is a traditional club with a long history in a formative leagues. He is a founding member of the German Bundesliga and has won four championships and two DFB Cup victories in the course of its history. The Fritz-Walter Stadium, with a capacity of 49,327 spectators, was opened in 1920 and was the venue for five games of the World Cup in 2006.

After several descent into the 2nd league, most recently in 2018, the FCK returned to the 2nd Bundesliga for the 2022/23 season. Fans hope for promotion to the first division, also to secure the competitiveness of the association in the long term. The current squad planning is therefore considered crucial to realize these ambitions. In this way, the club could continue to write its history and build on earlier successes.
