Fire drama in Landstuhl: Groß fire at the Elis laundry destroyed millions of values!

In the night of December 5, 2024, there was a devastating fire in the Elis laundry in Landstuhl, one of the city's largest employers. The fire destroyed the production hall of the traditional company Haber, with the damage being valued at several million euros. Fortunately, no employees were injured because the night shift had already ended at the time of the fire and the early shift had not yet started. A total of 390 employees are affected who are temporarily employed on other Elis branches.

The fire report of the Zweibrücken public prosecutor's office is still pending. Mayor Mattia de Fazio emphasized the importance of a quick reconstruction of the location in Landstuhl. This fire disaster represents a difficult blow for the local economy, as well as Dr. Peter Degenhardt, the mayor of the association, highlighted.

Details on the extinguishing rate and the effects

The alarm was triggered at 3:56 a.m. when the fire brigade was called to a full fire in the Großwäscherei Elias GmbH + Co. KG. The firefighters were able to control the fire, which spread quickly across the entire hall, and prevent it from spreading to surrounding buildings. Around 200 forces from various fire departments were deployed, including hazardous substances that withdraw air samples. The measurements showed that there is no danger from smoke development.

The hall is extremely at risk of collapse, which is why the fire brigade cannot currently enter the building. Bruchwiesenstrasse was closed in the area, and the evacuation of the adjacent houses and apartments was lifted after the fire was checked. Mayor Degenhardt thanked the more than 200 forces used for their courageous effort, while drone shots also documented the complete destruction of the main hall.

The current situation in Landstuhl is still being observed. Another tragic incident occurred in January 2024 when a residential building burned down at Martinshöhe, and a 66-year-old homeowner was killed. In August, too, a 70-year-old woman in Kindsbach was saved by a firefighter from a burning house, and the fire brigade had repeatedly struggled with fires in the past. However, the cause of the fire and the exact damage of the current incident is still unclear.
