Spectacular aerobatics: Pirmasens ’Leis enchants the audience!
On January 6, 2025, the Pottschütthöhe airfield came to a spectacular aerobatic flight that kept the audience in suspense. The chairman of the Aero Club Pirmasens, Patric Leis, carried out an impressive double-decker flight. During his appearance, he made a risky dive and disappeared into an impressive column of smoke. Many spectators were unsure whether this was an accident.
Patric Leis quickly made it clear that this was a planned part of his program. He explained that this should look exactly the same and admitted that he may be "a bit crazy", but not felt anything. The flight took place on a foggy day, which made the visibility more difficult.
The Pottschütthöhe airfield
The Pottschütthöhe airfield has a long history. It was founded in thermally favored terrain and leveled in 1956 by Americans, with the first starts taking place in the same year. Originally, the square was used by an air sports club in Landstuhl, the focus of which was on gliding.
Over the years, interest in the engine flight grew, which led to the foundation of a motor flight school in the 1960s. Despite financial difficulties and internal disputes in the 1970s, the association was revived in 1980 with the purchase of a Blanik glider. Today the Aero-Club Pirmasens has over 280 members, with the glider pilots being the most active. Public relations and youth promotion are the focus of the association, which has also organized large events to make flying better known.
