On February 12, 2025, Deutsche Bahn AG was reported to a serious theft at the main train station in Speyer. Unknowns stole 200 steel thresholds, which were previously stored there until February 13, 2025. The absence of the steel thresholds was noticed by an employee of the railway, which alerted the police and the investigative authorities.

The total loss is 16 tons of steel, which leads to property damage of 3,200 euros. The theft occurred between the 7th and February 12, 2025, which further fueled the investigation. On February 13, a transport company found that the remaining steel thresholds, a total of 430 pieces with a total weight of 34 tons and a real value of 6,880 euros, were also stolen. According to initial investigations, the steel thresholds had apparently been removed by three white trucks with gripping arm, which underlines the professionalism of the perpetrators.
