City championship: elementary school students kick around the football throne in K-Town!

On Thursday, March 20, an exciting football tournament for primary schools will be held in the SOC sports park in Kaiserslautern. More than 160 students will take part in this exciting competition, which begins at 9 a.m. The participants are divided into two age groups: first and second graders as well as third and fourth graders who will compete against each other in different groups. The event promises to become a captivating spectacle for players and spectators while the children fight for the title of the city master.

In the age group of the first and second graders who are born in 2016 and younger, the following primary schools compete against each other: Pfaffenwoog, Fischerrück, Röhm, Pestalozzi, Theodor-Heuss, Erzhütten and Betzenberg. These schools are divided into two groups to enable access to the final. The third and fourth graders of the 2014 vintages and younger play in three groups. In group 1 there are Fischerrück, Erzhütten, Luitpold and Röhm, while group 2 from Pfaffenwoog, Pestalozzi, Schiller and Theodor-Heuss and Group 3 from Stresemann, Dansenberg, Siblings Scholl and Betzenberg.

The hiking cups and medals that the young athletes will receive for their achievements are provided by the Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern (SWK). This support is not only recognition for the sporting success, but also a motivation for the students to actively act and show team spirit. The award ceremony will take place at around 12.30 p.m. and carried out by representatives of the SWK and the well -known mascot Betzi of the 1. Last year, a similar tournament took place on April 17, 2023, in which over 150 students from ten primary schools took part. There, the primary school Pfaffenwoog secured the victory in the category of first and second graders, while the Dansenberg primary school dominated the competition of the third and fourth graders. The highlight of the event was the visit of Betzi, which gave the children autographs and thus gave the tournament a special shine.
