Tijan Sila receives Martha Saalfeld Prize in his hometown Landau!
Tijan Sila, a writer based in Kaiserslautern, was awarded the Martha Saalfeld Prize in December 2024. The award ceremony took place on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 7 p.m. in the old department store in Landau, its hometown. The price is endowed with 8,000 euros and is awarded by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in cooperation with the Rhineland-Palatinate University of Technology (RPTU) Kaiserslautern-Landau. Minister of Culture Katharina Binz presented the award.
As part of the award ceremony, Tijan Sila will take over the poetics lecturer on the RPTU in the winter semester 2024/25. In addition, a public poetry lecture by Sila will take place on January 11, 2024. At the event, students of the representative game of the RPTU perform a scenic staging from his novel "Krach", which deals with the topics of youth, punk music and migration in Landau.

Tijan Sila was born in Sarajevo in 1981 and debut his novel “Tierchen Unlimited” in 2017. His latest novel "Radio Sarajevo", which was published in 2023, addresses complex social issues. During the award ceremony, a sponsorship award of 2,000 euros will also be awarded to the young author David Emling. After the ceremony, the guests are invited to a reception with a wine bar and pretzels, and the Thalia bookstore will offer Tijan Sila's works for sale and signing.
The cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and the Center for Cultural and Knowledge Dialogue (ZKW) has existed since 2014. A jury of experts, consisting of five members, including Prof. Dr. Anja Ohmer and Ingo Rüdiger, selected Tijan Sila for this honor. Admission to the event is free, which invites a general public to participate in this special celebration of the literature.
