Unemployment in Koblenz is increasing: new numbers at the beginning of the year!

Unemployment in Koblenz shows a noticeable increase at the end of 2024. Currently there are 4,064 people without work, which corresponds to an increase of 114 people compared to November and 225 is more than in December 2023. This leads to an unemployment rate of 6.3%, which is 0.1 points higher than in the previous month and 0.2 points compared to the previous year. 4,586 people are unemployed in the entire Mayen-Koblenz region, which in turn represents an increase of 146 people in November.

Frank Schmidt, head of the Koblenz-Mayen Employment Agency, explained that the increase in unemployment was seasonal. Many companies in gastronomy and tourism sector close their gates at the end of the year, which leads to an increase in unemployment in the winter months. In addition, the winter weather has a negative effect, which contributes to a higher number of unemployment reports.

The average unemployment rate was also 6.5%in 2024, which means an increase of 0.4 points compared to the previous year.

In Koblenz, more and more people are receiving citizens' money. The number of citizens' gates rose by 4.8 percent compared to the previous year in December and affects about every eleventh resident in the school age. Currently, 9,876 people in Koblenz receive citizens' money, including 6,887 people who work. This increase indicates the continuing challenges on the labor market, especially with regard to the long -term unemployed, which make up 32.7 percent of the unemployed in Koblenz.

The official unemployment rate for men is 6.6 percent, while women perform slightly better at 6.1 percent. Young people under the age of 25 whose unemployment rate is 4.7 percent and older job seekers between the ages of 55 and 64 are particularly affected with a rate of 6.5 percent. Foreigners are strongly overrepresented with an unemployment rate of 14.1 percent.
