In a comprehensive investigation, seven suspects from Koblenz are targeted by the authorities. The gang, consisting of five Germans, a Poland and a Kosovar aged 23 to 56, is suspected of acting with narcotics, including cannabis and new psychoactive substances since September 2023.

The investigation led to extensive searches in 17 objects in Koblenz, especially in private apartments in the Neuendorf district. In addition, objects in Meschede, North Rhine-Westphalia, were also examined. These missions were supported by forces from the Koblenz police headquarters, including special forces. In the course of the searches, the investigators were able to ensure significant evidence.

As part of the operation, two accused were arrested: a 27-year-old and a 46-year-old. While the arrest warrant against the 27-year-old was put out of prison against payment of a deposit, the 46-year-old remains in custody. The searches led to ensuring:

background of drug crime

Drug crime in Germany is a growing problem. According to Statista , around 347,000 drug crime cases were registered in 2023, an increase of two percent compared to the previous year. Many of these cases concerned cannabis, which has been partially legalized since April 2024. Despite a slight decline, the proportion of cannabis cases is still over 90 percent.

The severity of these offenses is reinforced by the fact that unauthorized trading in narcotics is punished in a not small amount with considerable prison terms. While simple trading is legally threatened with a prison sentence of at least one year, the law provides for a minimum penalty of five years in gang activities.

In a further investigation, drugs were also secured in September 2024 in Mainz and other cities. More than 13 kilograms of amphetamine and 8 kilograms of cocaine were confiscated.

The increase in drugotives, which were estimated to be around 2,230 in 2023, shows the dangerous effects of drug use, which often leads to long -term damage to health. This makes it clear how important the intensive investigations and measures of the security authorities are in order to combat drug trafficking.

Further developments are to be expected because the investigation in Koblenz and other regions are continued.
