On March 2, 2025, the rescue control center in Trier was informed about a panel of a barn in the municipality of Schweich. Several fire brigades immediately moved to fight the fire. On site, a larger barn burned with an attached carport and a smaller dandruff. During the operation, there were smaller explosions of gas bottles and benzinc anists that were in the dandruff. An older motorhome that was parked in the carport burned out completely. Fortunately, the nearby residential building remained undamaged. The estimated property damage is around 60,000 euros, but fortunately there were no injuries. A total of 45 forces from the fire brigades from Schweich, Issel, Föhren, Longuich and the military director of the Schweich association.
An ambulance was also on site as a precaution, but intervention was not necessary. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and the investigation is still ongoing, as the Rhein-Zeitung reports.
Second fire in Neumarkt
The owner of the property was in his nearby house at the time of the fire and had to flee through the basement due to the heat. He suffered a shock. In this large contingent, ten fire brigades, the Technical Relief Agency (THW) and several police strips were deployed. The area around the barn was cordoned off in large terms because the lack of water led to hoses had to be laid across streets. The spark flight caused several fire nests below the Wolfstein castle ruins, but the fire brigade was able to prevent the flames from spreading to the adjacent forest.
Several hundred onlookers were near Wolfstein Castle, which brought additional challenges for the emergency services. The onlookers had to be looked after. The estimated property damage in this case is around 400,000 euros.
