Bülsestrasse level crossing in Gelsenkirchen: full closure and diversions!

From May 2, 2025, the level crossing on Bülsestrasse in Gelsenkirchen will be completely closed due to extensive repair work for motorized traffic. However, pedestrians can continue to use the transition. For drivers, this means that you have to choose alternative routes to bypass the construction site. The diversions in one direction lead over Nordring, Dorstener Straße and Feldhauser Straße, while in the other direction Nordring, Konrad-Adenauer-Allee, Bülser Straße, Nienkampstraße and Feldhauser Straße. The complete blocking is to be maintained by May 27, 2025 and will be accompanied by further measures that will bring a half -sided blocking of the southern Bülsestrasse from May 12th, during which the exit is only possible from Zweckler Strasse.

The effects on public transport should also not be underestimated. Bus line 247 is diverted and several stops are canceled. The “Lemgoer Str.” Stops are affected. (in the direction of Gebuer), "Honigmannstraße", "Forstweg", "Bärenkampa Straße" and "Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße". Alternatively, passengers can use the “Lemgoer Straße” stops (towards Scholven) and “Dorstener Straße”. These changes result in the context of a series of infrastructural works that are currently being carried out in Gelsenkirchen and the surrounding area.

train station renovations and construction work

Deutsche Bahn has also announced construction activities at the Gelsenkirchen Buer-Nord and Herten-Westerholt train stations for May 2025. The focus of the work is on the renewal of the two outer platforms in Herten-Westerholt, which include a length of 150 meters. This work is part of a more comprehensive renovation plan, which also includes the installation of systems for elevators and monitors after completion of the platforms. The planned blocking break for this work extends from May 2 to 23, 2025. Another construction site is planned for cable work at the station in November 2025.

The modernizations are part of the ongoing infrastructure program of Deutsche Bahn, which aims to significantly improve the rail infrastructure by 2030. This program includes the renovation of over 2,000 kilometers of tracks and 2,000 soft, as well as 150 bridges and 1,000 train stations, which are to be optimized in terms of capacity and quality. The CEO of DB Infrago AG, Dr. Philipp Nagl emphasizes that the investments in the infrastructure are a targeted procedure to strengthen public transport. Investments of around 16.4 billion euros are planned for 2024 to stabilize the general operating processes and to improve the accessibility.

comprehensive infrastructure projects

The infrastructure program not only includes the modernization of train stations in urban areas such as Gelsenkirchen and Herten, but also measures in less populous regions. Digital signal boxes are to be expanded as part of these strategies, with the first digital signal box in Donauwörth being in operation since March 2024. These progress is part of a comprehensive plan that estimates a total of 355 smaller and medium -sized measures for quality improvement in the existing network by the end of 2030.

In summary, it can be seen that the construction work in Gelsenkirchen does not take place in isolation, but rather represent a comprehensive optimization of the traffic infrastructure, which will have both local and national effects. During this time, both road users and travelers are invited to public transport to inform themselves about the changes and to use alternative routes.
