Bridge construction offensive in North Rhine-Westphalia: Millions of investments for new structures!
The Lippenverband has announced that the bridge over the Wienbach on the street Am Strandbad in Dorsten-Holsterhausen. This old reinforced concrete structure, which was built in 1953, will be demolished from mid -April 2024. The completion of the new bridge is planned for autumn 2025. These measures are part of extensive investments in the infrastructure by the lip association, which is responsible for wastewater disposal, flood protection and water entertainment. The total costs for the demolition and the new building amount to around 500,000 euros, such as Lokalkompass.de
During the construction phase, the road in the area of the bridge will be closed on both sides. Despite the demolition, parts of the substructure of the nine meter long bridge will remain unchanged. The renewal primarily affects the actual crossing over the water, whereby the new bridge is also produced in reinforced concrete. It is also planned to increase the load of the bridge from 12 tons to 30 tons to achieve a higher bridge class.
other bridge projects in North Rhine-Westphalia
parallel to the renovation work in Dorsten, North Rhine-Westphalia's Transport Minister Oliver Krischer presented a comprehensive bridge renovation program for 2025. Within this program, 42 bridge structures on federal and state roads are replaced with a total volume of around 108 million euros. The Passadetal Bridge in Lemgo will also be renewed in 2024 and receives 15.2 million euros for financing from the black and green state government. Furthermore, bridges for business routes in Extertal and Barntrup aldowing are also planned, each of which will cost 1.1 million euros. This information can be found on mein-lemgo.news .
These initiatives are part of a larger renovation offensive that has been running for a year. The aim is to replace 400 bridges in the next ten years to sustainably improve the dilapidated infrastructure. The need for such measures is obvious, since many bridges in North Rhine-Westphalia come from the 60s and 1970s and therefore urgently need to be repaired. The black and green state government has prioritized the protection of the existing street infrastructure and plans to integrate the residents' concerns, in particular with regard to noise protection, into the new buildings. One example is the planned installation of a 1.30 meter high closed railing at the new building in Voßheide.
