Large blocking of the A40: Bridge new building near Duisburg-Kaiserberg!

From Friday, January 17, 2025, the A40 will be closed in the area of the Duisburg-Kaiserberg motorway junction for around 56 hours. This affects both the direction of travel Venlo and the direction of food. The block begins at 9 p.m. and ends on Monday, January 20, at 5 a.m. The reason for this measure is construction work for the production of foundations for a new bridge, which are carried out as part of a comprehensive renovation of the motorway junction.

The A40 is one of the central traffic arteries in the Ruhr area, with around 100,000 vehicles that drive through this hub every day. Due to the numerous on-board and descents, the motorway junction is often referred to as "spaghetti nodes". As part of the current construction work, all routes, bridges and ramps are to be renewed on the cross to noticeably improve the traffic situation.

diversions and other closures

The exit of the A3 on the A40 towards Venlo is also affected during the closure, while the exit towards Essen remains navigable. Derirandings are signposted and lead over the A3, A42 and A59 motorways. These traffic measures are intended to ensure that traffic can continue to flow as smoothly as possible during the construction work.

In addition to the work that will be carried out this weekend, further closures are planned in the Kaiserberg motorway junction in the coming weeks. These were originally supposed to take place from 23 to January 27, from January 31 to February 3 and from February 28 to March 3. Due to the onset of winter and the associated delays, these appointments are now not met. New dates will be announced at a later date.

long -term construction projects and federal traffic routes

The conversion of the Kaiserberg motorway junction began in 2022 and is scheduled to be completed by 2030. This is part of a larger plan that is defined in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan (BVWP) that controls the development of the transport infrastructure in Germany. The current BVWP 2030 provides for an investment volume of 269.6 billion euros, of which a significant part is to be used to receive existing transport networks.

The Federal Government also initiated measures to accelerate planning and approval procedures in 2022 in order to implement such infrastrucural projects as efficiently as possible. These measures also include a cross -departmental control group that serves to identify legislative projects that can contribute to acceleration. The focus is on developing an integrative strategy that looks at both infrastructural and mobility -related requirements until 2040.
