Cold and black ice: Caution on the streets in Hesse!

Cold and black ice: Caution on the streets in Hesse!

On January 14, 2025, the weather in Germany is determined by the high-pressure area Beate , which has settled with a pressure of 1044 hpa above the country. This high ensures a stable location with dry, cold air masses and makes the weather appear rather unspectacular. In some regions, however, high fog may occur due to slight damp air.

With the weather, the cold does not fail to materialize. The nights are frosty and there is a permanent cool weather during the day. Especially in the low mountain ranges, such as the Black Forest, there is a significant lack of snow. While the sky is largely cloudless during the day, meteorologists predict that the frosty weather conditions could last up to 14 days without any significant rainfall.

Face risk threatens

On Tuesday, a warm front moves across the northeast of Germany and could briefly bring smooth ice rain there. In the afternoon, there is also light drizzle in Northern Hesse that can cause black ice on streets and sidewalks. The weather warning for black ice and frost will apply from Tuesday afternoon. It becomes particularly dangerous on bridges and unprotected street sections. The temperatures in the affected regions only rise slightly and are generally between -2 degrees in Marburg and Gießen, up to 3 degrees in Michelstadt and Darmstadt.

The weather remains stable, although hardly any weather changes can be expected by the weekend. In the middle of the week, however, deeper clouds could spread from the north. It remains milder in Hesse, with the nights remaining frosty, which is a challenge for drivers and pedestrians.

long -term weather forecasts

The weather conditions in Germany are currently in a deep sleep, which is based on both daily life and nature. Experts warn that the drought caused by the lack of precipitation could be a decisive risk to the environment. With regard to the future weather patterns, one does not expect a change soon, even though there is still a prospect of a possible turn towards the end of January. One trend is emerging: the probability of new temperature records is increasing, while the opportunities for cold winter days tend to decrease.

The current conditions are not only an expression of the current weather conditions, but can also be considered in the context of global warming. A Study shows that more extreme weather events in Germany are increasingly associated with the effects of climate change. The researchers find that these extreme events occur in new areas and underline the urgency of rethinking in dealing with climatic changes.

In the coming days, it remains to be seen how the weather conditions develop, while many Germans are unsettled by the cold and the impending black ice on rough roads.
