Creativity in kindergarten: new building blocks for small building artists!

On April 23, 2025, a new chapter for early childhood funding will be opened in the "Am Buchenberg" daycare center in Dau. Stephanie Orlik from Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) has introduced an innovative construction game that not only stimulates the creativity of the children, but also pursues important learning objectives. Under the direction of Myriam Bergmann-Franke, the daycare manager, as well as the treasurer Karsten Burbach and board member Gerhard Jung, the game was introduced as part of the SWG campaign "Spiel 'Your Game".

The construction game enables children to build towers, bridges, bridges and furniture made of untreated beech wood without having to fall back on tools or adhesives. This simple handling not only promotes fine motor skills, but also the spatial imagination. The children learn basic mathematical and scientific concepts such as form and symmetry in a playful way. These activities support concentration and logical thinking, while at the same time strengthening the self-confidence of the children, as Bergmann-Francon emphasizes.

advantages of construction games

construction games are more than just a pastime. They make it possible for children to live out their creative freedoms and test their skills, while they mostly use simple materials to develop complex ideas. Children start building blocks in early years, while older children pass to the use of Lego or Lego Duplo. The complexity of the games should be adapted to the skills and interests of the children to ensure that there is a positive learning process.

A central component of construction games is the possibility of failure. When children experience that their constructions do not succeed, they have to learn to deal with frustration. This not only promotes resilience, but also self -confidence. Once built, the children can use in other games, which further stimulates their creativity and promotes cooperation, especially for larger projects.

early childhood funding and development goals

Early stimulation is crucial for the psychomotor and linguistic development of the children. Studies show that the brain of small children is particularly plastic, which means that early childhood support has positive effects on different areas of development. Construction games and targeted learning methods, such as the Kumon method, can be used effectively in this phase. They promote cognitive development, hand-eye coordination, as well as social and emotional security.

Children in the "Am Buchenberg" daycare center benefit from the care of eleven experienced educators in an environment that stimulates creativity and independence. The daycare association, which organizes flea markets and finances additional offers, supports this positive development. Cooperation with the SWG is seen as a valuable addition to the work of the association, emphasizes Karsten Burbach.

Overall, it can be seen that construction games make an important contribution to early support and playfully create the basics for the later development of the children. From mathematical concepts to social skills, the foundation for a successful future is laid in a playful way.
