Art finds neighbors together: exhibition in good neighborhood opened!

On Friday, March 21, 2025, the first exhibition entitled "In good neighborhood" will open in the new "Kreativraumd" on Worringer Platz. The artist Dorothea Schüle, who has been active in Düsseldorf since 2012, shows in this exhibition works that are inspired by the Düsseldorf neighborhood and her experience in Paris. The exhibition invites visitors to draw a comparison between the works of art from Düsseldorf and those of the Cité Internationale des Arts of 2021.

The Worringer Platz, known for its urban challenges, has positioned itself as a central place for art projects. Despite the perception as an anxiety space that is traditionally frequented by drug addicts and homeless, the project is aiming for a fresh start. The "creative space" is part of a funding project by the city of Düsseldorf, which aims to network space seekers with owners with owners and to enrich the artistic landscape. On the ground floor of the former pavilion, an open kitchen and an office for the project team was set up to attract new creative projects.

The challenges at Worringer Platz

In recent years, the Worringer Platz has been increasingly in focus. The security problem caused by cracking and the associated displacement of scene rooms was examined by various institutions. A research project, led by Kai Hauprich, shows that so -called "angle spaces" are defined by the majority society. This increased conflicts, since the helpers and law enforcement officers no longer have access to the people concerned. The Worringer Platz, together with other places such as the main train station and the Mintropplatz, is perceived by the homeless as an anxiety.

The police and the regulatory office are perceived ambivalent; While they are perceived as protection, they can also trigger fear. Interviews with homeless have shown that this group of people is often confronted with arbitrariness and uncertainty regarding their places of residence. These results underpin the need for sensitive security planning, social problems and their causes instead of only ignoring them by insurance.

artistic approaches as part of the solution

The initiative "In good neighborhood" is in the context of a growing movement for cultural participation and artistic participation in public space. Art projects in urban areas, such as those of Dorothea Schüle, aim to promote dialogue with the population and to actively address social issues. Such projects can offer a way to change the perception of fear dreams and to beat bridges between different social groups.

In April, regular workshops and working groups are planned in April, which are intended to deal with the further development of Worringer Platz. This could help to shape the quarter sustainably and to bring about both artistic and social changes.

In summary, it can be stated that the exhibition "in good neighborhood", which will be open until May 2, not only presents Düsseldorf's artistic diversity, but also shows the potential of art as a means of solving social challenges. At a time when social divisions are increasingly noticeable, art can take on the role of a mediator to promote understanding between the various actors in urban areas.
