New shine for Olpes pedestrian bridge: modernization starts now!

The city of Olpe has started the construction work to renew the pedestrian bridge on Valentinsweg. This measure aims to expand the bridge into a modern pedestrian and cycle path bridge that meets the current requirements for safety and comfort. According to the Sauerland Kurier is expected to be closed until July 2025 ensure.

The main work on the new bridge is carried out over a period of time, which coincides with the route closures provided by the Deutsche Bahn between March 15 and June 15, 2025. During this time, the direct connection between the Biggerandweg and Ronnwinkel cannot be usable. The city asks pedestrians and cyclists to use the signposted diversions and indicates that crossing the railway tracks remains prohibited.

Security and comfort in the focus

The new construction should not only be visually appealing, but also offers more space for users. A wider passage area and optimized railing height ensure an increased feeling of security. Another plus: cyclists will no longer have to descend in order to use the bridge. This will significantly improve the flow of traffic and the comfort.

The planned pedestrian and cycle path bridge is delivered pre-made and then used with a crane. This efficient construction helps to shorten the construction time, which is an advantage for surrounding residents and commuters. Particular attention is paid to the progress of the work, since the foundation of the new bridge is stabilized for a long service life.

an example of sustainable bridge construction

Bridge construction in Olpe is seen in an environmentally friendly context that has already been implemented in other projects, such as in Frankenberg in Hesse. There are also new wooden pedestrian and cycle path bridges there, designed by the Miebach engineering office. These bridges are characterized by an environmentally friendly and modern design and were awarded the German bike price 2024 and recognitions in the German timber construction award.

By focusing on modern, safe and comfortable bridges, the city is committed to improving the infrastructure. With the planned construction work on the Valentinsweg, another step is taken in the right direction, which will benefit both pedestrians and cyclists.
