historical importance of the castle

Burg Vischering is not only a beautiful building, but also has a rich history. The main castle, which was built on piles, was originally built by the Bishop to protect his rights against the Lords of Lüdinghausen. For a long time, the castle resisted all attacks until it was partially damaged by a fire in 1521. After the reconstruction in the Renaissance style, the system remained almost unchanged, including the impressive Ascension Bett from the 16th century.

The interactive permanent exhibition offers an exciting insight into life from the Middle Ages to modern times. Visitors accompany the Droste family to Vischering and learn about the history of the region. The Vischering Castle, together with Nordkirchen Castle and Westerwinkel Castle, forms a “castle triangle” in southern Münsterland, which is particularly popular with cyclists on the 100-lock route.

For families there is a variety of activities at the castle, including the opportunity to explore the castle with tablets or to measure their strength on a knighthood. In addition, annual knight camps take place and the event hall of the outer castle houses top -class cultural events, including the well -known series of events "Burgjazz".

For a relaxed lunch break, the Café riding stable offers a cozy atmosphere. In addition, restaurants such as Naundrup's Hof, which serves Westphalian cuisine, and Heimelich, which offers seasonal and regional dishes, are popular in the area. Overnight stays can be found in the nearby city hotels. A visit to Lüdinghausen promises an ideal destination for the whole family through the picturesque nature and the cultural offer.
