Change of politics in Kusel: CDU triumphs, SPD loses dramatic!
At the local elections in June in the Kusel district, a new group of voters has achieved considerable success. The group "Vote for the district of Kusel" originally started as a group of voters was able to win 13 % of the votes and thus provides the strongest council group in the Kusel-Altenglan community. In the district town, Martin Heß was 58.9 % of the votes of new mayors and thus clearly prevailed against the SPD candidate Peter Schmid, who received 41.1 % of the votes. Hess achieved a total of 1,329 votes, which is 400 more votes than his challenger.
The Social Democrats (SPD) had to accept a massive loss in voting. In the district, its share of 28.9 % fell to 21.8 % in 2023 in 2019, which means a decline of 7.2 %. While the CDU also lost voices, it remains the strongest political force in the district with 24.5 %, but here too the decline was 1.4 %. In the southern district, the SPD could not attack the dominance of the CDU: Christoph Lothschütz (CDU) won over 70 % of the votes against the SPD candidate Pia Bockhorn-Tüzün.
Occupation and results of the other parties
in Waldmohr, Charlotte Jentsch was elected the first woman in the mayor's office by the SPD, while Isabel Steinhauer-Theis (CDU) continued to hold the Mayor's Office in Lauterecken. Christian Nickel, an independent candidate, became the new mayor of Wolfstein. The AfD was able to increase its result from 12 % in 2019 to 18.6 %, while the Greens fell from 10.6 % to 5.7 %. Free voters and FDP also lost moderately.
In addition to the Danneck electoral group, the AfD in Kusel has gained approval with 29.1 % of the valid votes, which corresponds to an increase of 13.5 percentage points. The SPD fell to 20.9 %, although it suffered a loss of 8.1 percentage points, while the CDU achieved 21.3 % of the vote and suffered a loss of 0.1 percentage points. The turnout was 1,100 voters of 3,811 voters, which corresponds to a validity of 1,080 votes.
