The return of Thomas Nast: a cartoonist in focus!

The book "Thomas Nast - Cartel between Art and Critics" is now available in a revised and expanded edition. According to Rheinpfalz has published empirical pedagogy from the University of Landau-Koblenz, that deals with the multi -layered topics of life and work by Thomas Nast. The demand for the book is great, so that only a small number of copies is available.

The book comprises 369 pages that deal with various aspects of Nast's journalistic work. The topics treated include the American Civil War, the Chinisterian Minority and Nast's tireless fight against corruption. The team of authors consists of experts who have dealt intensively with these topics. Further content is devoted to the visualization strategies of Nast, his relationship with the Catholic Church and its last phase of life.

as the Wochblatt Reporter was born in Landau and emigrated to the United States in 1846. He is considered the father of political caricature in the United States and has taken up numerous important topics in the course of his career. Nast supported excellent presidential candidates of the Republican Party, including Abraham Lincoln.

A lecture on Nast will take place on Thursday, November 28, at 4 p.m. in the GDA residential pen in Neustadt. Hans-Joachim Schatz, the former rector of the Thomas Nast primary school and member of the Thomas Nast Association, will speak in this context about Nast's childhood, his emigration and his impressive career.

nast's artistic achievements are not only removed for their political relevance, but also for the ingenious social criticism that they convey. Based on more than 2000 illustrations that have lost their explosiveness even today, NAST deals with topics such as corruption, arms arms and pollution. His famous Santa Claus Illustrations are also presented at the event, accompanied by poems from Schatz 'Santa Claus-Büchlein.

Thomas Nast, born in a difficult family situation, showed artistic talent early on that was recognized at school. He started his professional career at the age of 22 at "Harpers Weekly". He spent his last years in Guayaquil, Ecuador, where he died of yellow fever in 1902.
