In the context of the bike tour, the ADFC has expressed the recently signed European explanation for cycling. This explanation signed by leading institutions of the European Union, including the European Council and the European Commission, aims to promote cycling in the EU. This should be done through the expansion of secure cycling infrastructures and the promotion by financial resources.
The declaration comprises 36 points and legally does not constitute an obligation, but explains the foundation for future laws that support the safety and distribution of bicycle traffic. Cycling traffic is emphasized as an essential contribution to achieving the climate goals and supporting the European Green Deal. ADFC federal manager Caroline Lodemann sees a milestone in this document and asks the Federal Government to actively implement measures to support bicycle traffic.
sustainability and future prospects
The EU Commissioner of Transport, Adina Vălean, emphasizes the multitude of advantages that cycling for the environment, cities and health entails. The aim is to increase the attractiveness of the bike as a means of transport through continuous and well -developed cycle path networks as well as sufficient storage options, especially at train stations and stops.
The expansion of the bicycle infrastructure should not only increase the safety of cyclists, but also support European industry and innovation in order to create growth and jobs. The ADFC sees this explanation a valuable orientation for all member states in the future cycling policy of the EU.
