New fire station in Neupotz: completion and next steps!

On March 20, 2025, Mayor Karl Dieter Wünstel and Tobias Völkel, the head of the building department, planning and environment, visited the construction site of the new fire station in Neupotz. The shell is standing and the windows are already installed. At the moment, roofers are busy ensuring the weather strength of the building. The planning for the installation of a photovoltaic system on the gable roof has been completed, which underlines the sustainable orientation of the project.

The next steps include the assembly of the doors as well as insulation and cleaning work. The interior of the fire station is also imminent. Wünstel emphasized the great importance of the fire service and the need to adapt the new premises to the requirements of the emergency services. The aim is to improve the security and efficiency of the fire brigade. At the moment, the Neupotz fire brigade is temporarily housed on the site of the old sewage treatment plant, which ensures that the operational readiness is guaranteed.

respond to the requirements of the fire brigade

The planning and construction of fire brigade houses must meet numerous safety and structural requirements. These are anchored in § 3 of the municipal code North Rhine-Westphalia and the Fire and Aid Act (BHKG). In particular, health risks such as inadequate parking space sizes, defective traffic routes and inadequate lighting must be minimized. A professional planning team, consisting of architects and firefighters, should work closely together to meet the special needs.

Planning at the local level requires the consideration of various factors. This includes the location of the building plot, the requirements of the development plan and the design of the premises, which should serve both aesthetic and functional purposes. When creating the spatial program, the necessities and sizes of the different rooms must be determined precisely.

challenges and legal requirements

Firefighters are essential infrastructures, the functionality of which must also be guaranteed under extreme conditions. The DIN 14092 determines binding basics for planning these buildings, including specific spatial programs and measures. Architects must ensure that these standards are observed to avoid later adjustments. One of the most important challenges in planning is that all necessary safety precautions are observed to minimize injuries to the emergency services.

Additional protective measures are recorded in the Workplace Ordinance and in the accident prevention regulations. It is of great advantage if the planning takes place early, taking into account the DGUV regulation 205-008, which is currently being revised to meet the current standards. This regulation offers valuable assistance for the safe operation of fire station and also contains agreements on special construction solutions and safety devices.

The construction site in Neupotz therefore stands not only for the continuation of a project that serves to ensure the security of the population, but also for the implementation of modern structural standards in the fire brigade infrastructure. Fostering Efficient, Safe Working Conditions for Firefighters is a commitment that Local Authorities are making throughout, Clearly Shown by the Ongoing Works in Neupotz.
