The development of free voters in Rhineland-Palatinate

The State Association of Free Voters, which has existed since the 1970s, supports 176 member associations with around 10,000 members. He acts as a umbrella organization for the free and independent voters in the municipalities and does not take part in elections themselves. Instead, the state association focuses on supporting member associations, particularly in local elections, which is an important task.

In the 2014 local elections, the free voters in Rhineland-Palatinate achieved the third best result according to the CDU and SPD with 10.6 % of the votes. They won numerous mandates in the independent cities and district days, which illustrates the strength and presence of this movement.

Free voters campaign for a factual and citizen -related local politics, an orientation that will also be promoted in the future by the new "District Association Germersheim". With a reform of their statutes in the 1980s, they headed against bureaucratization and campaigned for strengthening municipal self -government, which is still the guidelines of their actions.

Overall, the foundation of the "District Association Germersheim" represents a significant step in the development of free voters in Rhineland-Palatinate and underlines their commitment to local issues.
