Zoological triumph: Zoo Landau cracks visitor record 2024!

The Zoo Landau in the Palatinate set a new record in 2024 with over 179,000 payers. This survives the previous maximum of 178,446 visitors from 2014, as reported by the . Mayor and ZooDezernent Lukas Hartmann thanked the employees of the zoo for their commitment and emphasized the role of the zoo as an important destination, green oasis as well as modern facilities for environmental education and species protection.

The over 179,000 visitors also came more than 40,000 visits to members of the Freundeskreis and owners of Zoo combic cards. Zoo Director Dr. Jens-Ove Heckel was pleased with the positive development of the number of visits, especially after the spring and September weather was less inviting. In the anniversary year, several workshops took place, which made up to 50 participants possible an exchange about the success, challenges and opportunities of the next ten years.

special initiatives and awards

An outstanding project of the zoo was the foundation of the first Kiebitz art brood, rearing and outdoor station in Rhineland-Palatinate. Supported by the country, a total of 47 lapwings were successfully released into nature. Various events, including a visit by Prime Minister Alexander Schweitzer, enriched the zoo's anniversary year, which celebrated its 120th anniversary in 2023. In addition, the Landau Zooschule received the national award for education for sustainable development, while structural measures to improve climate protection efficiency and a sustainable economy in the zoo were made possible by state funding, such as the Rheinpfalz added.
