Hundreds of school furniture for Ukrainian schools: a sign of solidarity!

In an important act of solidarity, several hundred school furniture was transported by the vocational schools (BBS) Ingelheim and Bingen to the Ukrainian city of Winnyzja. This transport took place as part of an aid campaign that aims to support a special bunker school that should enable the pupils to provide safe lessons during aerial valley warnings. The campaign was carried out on April 25, 2025 and received active support from Almut Schultheiß-Lehn, the second district deputy of the district of Mainz-Bingen, who personally approved the initiative.

The background of this helpfulness is in the move of the BBS Ingelheim and the renovation of the BBS Bingen, through which some furniture was sorted out. These furniture was no longer suitable for use in schools, but in good condition and can now be used sensibly in Ukraine. Overall, it was transported:

  • 600 chairs
  • 340 tables
  • 18 smartboards
  • 6 cupboards
  • 1 mobile smartboard

logistics and support

The transport was organized in two truck tours, an extensive logistical challenge that was coordinated by Ricarda Kerl, the district's partnership officer. She was supported by Ute Granold, the former mayor of Klein-Winterheim. In addition, the campaign received financial support from the German-Ukrainian society in Mainz and resource-related help from the city of Karlsruhe, which also maintains close connections to Winnyzja.

over 45 committed helpers came together to help with the process of disassembly, packaging and loading of the furniture. Among these volunteers were members of the Ingelheim city council, citizens from Klein-Winterheim and Ukrainian refugees. This community effort not only strengthens humanitarian aid, but also relationships between the municipalities.

partnerships in focus

The aid campaign is part of a broader strategy to deepen the partnerships between the Mainz-Bingen district and Ukrainian cities. Current partnerships exist between:

  • Klein-Winterheim and Mayaky
  • Sprendlingen-Gensingen and Boratyn
  • Ingelheim and Kolomyia

The district of Mainz-Bingen actively promotes these relationships and shows its solidarity through concrete help on site. These actions not only contribute to the improvement of the educational conditions in Ukraine, but also strengthen the integrative efforts in the region.
