Troubles in rail traffic: New Year's Eve ensures chaos in Frankfurt!

On New Year's Eve, December 31, there were considerable disorders in rail traffic around Frankfurt. Parts of regional transport and two S-Bahn lines in the Rhein-Main area are affected. The short -term disease of signal box staff was mentioned as the reason for the restrictions, which meant that replacement personnel could not be provided promptly.

The restrictions on rail traffic apply from Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. to Wednesday morning, January 1, at 6 a.m. The regional express line RE2, which normally connects Frankfurt, Mainz, Bingen and Koblenz, and the S-Bahn lines 8 and 9 are particularly affected. The S-Bahn line 8 is diverted between Raunheim and Frankfurt-Stadion and does not stop in Kelsterbach, regional train station at the Frankfurt airport and in Gateway Gardens. In addition, the S-Bahn line 9 is completely stopped in the mentioned time.

replacement traffic and recommendations for travelers

For the affected routes, replacement traffic with buses between Raunheim and Frankfurt-Gateway Gardens was set up. Travelers can use the redirected S-Bahn line 8 as a replacement for the S9 and the RE2. However, taking bicycles is not permitted in the buses.

The traffic to Frankfurt Airport is also particularly affected. The S9 fully failed to reach January 1, 2024 on the night of December 31, 2024. During the day, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., line S1 only runs every 30 minutes. Travelers are asked to inform themselves before departure about the current operating situation on Bahn.de or in the DB Navigator app. For questions, the Bahn customer dialogue is available on +49 69 244 457 10.
