Habeck's campaign start: over 1,500 spectators and big expectations!
On Sunday afternoon, between 3,000 and 4,000 people flocked to Robert Habeck's campaign appearance in the old post camp at Mainz Central Station. Only 500 visitors were expected, but over 1,500 people were admitted, while numerous waiting ends had to be rejected. The Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister of Economics of the Greens was disappointed to not be able to serve the waiting people and thanked his agenda for the great interest in his agenda. The queue extended to the Hochstraße and the Mombacher Hochbrücke, which underlines the popularity of Habeck in the region. Thorsten Becherer, the direct candidate of the Greens in Mainz, welcomed the guests and prepared the ground for the main speech of the Chancellor's candidate.
In his speech, Habeck appealed to the citizens to recognize the dangers of populism and to work for freedom and democracy. He emphasized the need to examine the influence of authoritarian regime in Germany and to open the dialogue about fundamental questions of the future. With a view to the upcoming Bundestag elections on February 23, 2025, he found that climate protection and economic renewal represent central issues of his political agendawarning of populism and step back
Habeck warned of the populist currents that increase in Germany. Populism is often associated with non -implementable claims and creates a separation between "people" and "elite". He appealed to the listeners to be vigilant and to recognize the real challenges for society instead of following seductive but unrealistic solutions. According to ZDF , the topic of populism is increasingly relevant in Germany, especially in advance of the elections, where parties such as the AfD are considered particularly populist.
In terms of climate policy, Habeck confirmed that climate protection must be considered as protection of freedom. To do this, he promised to reduce the electricity costs for households by up to 400 euros, for example by reducing electricity taxes and network charges. He also announced that driving license acquisition could be subsidized for young people. He emphasized that the proportion of renewable energies on the electricity mix has increased from 40 % to almost 60 % in the past three years.
political agenda of the Greens
In view of the current economic challenges, Habeck demanded that the debt brake flexible and criticized the CDU for its tax relief. Accordingly, he pointed out that a successful economic policy also needed concrete solutions, which, however, remained vague in his speech. The Greens, which are 15 % according to the current surveys, face sharp competition: The CDU leads with 30 %, followed by the AfD with 21 % ( Mainzund ).
Apart from Habeck's appearance in Mainz, various parties, including the FDP with Christian Lindner and the CDU with Friedrich Merz, also expect intensive campaign activities. On this occasion, political culture in Germany will be under many critical questions that affect the future of the country. The reputation of the Greens, for climate protection and economic stability, is accompanied by both support and skepticism, which clearly becomes the overall assessment of their positioning in the election campaign.
In Habeck's speech, however, economic issues were only discussed in passing, which both encouraged and challenged the audience to deal with the complex challenges that lie in front of Germany. Towards the rigid political discussion culture, Habeck joined an open dialogue that respected all perspectives and should re -determine the political course.
