alarming statistics

The need for such offers is underpinned by alarming statistics. In 2023, the number of registered victims of domestic violence in Germany increased by 6.5 % compared to the previous year. A total of around 256,000 victims were recorded, which means an increase of almost 20 % in the past five years. Particularly worrying is the fact that about 70 % of the registered victims are female and two thirds of violence occur within (ex) partnerships.

patient and secretly, many affected people have given up hope that the situation could improve. In fact, the number of unreported cases of domestic violence is estimated to be 25 %. Domestic violence not only includes physical, but also psychological and sexual violence, which often begins with criticism, jealousy, threats and control.

help offers

In order to offer those affected a way out of this crisis, there are special help telephones. For example, women can receive support on 0 800 00/116 016, while men can get help under 0 800/123 99 00. Children who often also suffer from the consequences of domestic violence can contact the children's and youth telephone "Number against Kummer" under number 116 111.

The initiative to offer confidential help is a significant step in the right direction to support the often invisible victims of domestic violence and to provide them with the help they need.
