Mainz conquered International Square: Heidenheim continues in the crisis!

On Sunday evening, the 1st FSV Mainz 05 won 2-0 against 1. FC Heidenheim, which Mainz catapulted on a place in the European qualification. Jonathan Burkardt scored the goals in the 28th minute and Nelson Weiper shortly after half -time in the 49th minute. The victory was particularly valuable for Mainz because the team collided again after several injuries. Burkardt, who returned to the starting eleven after an injury, played a key role and was praised for his efficiency. It is particularly noteworthy that Mainz climbed six by this victory, while Heidenheim remains on the relegation place.

Heidenheim, who had to do without the injured Niklas Dorsch, initially had difficulty finding into play. The first noteworthy opportunity for the hosts came through Tim Siersleben in the 12th minute, which failed. Mainz, on the other hand, set the accents and came to his first goal through Burkardt after a precise cross from Anthony Caci.

as Heidenheim the pressure increased

After Mainz took the lead, Heidenheim seemed unsettled. The team of coach Frank Schmidt tried to find back into the game, but could not take advantage of the opportunities offering. In the 38th minute, Paul Nebel missed the goal and the indecisiveness of the Heidenheimers continued. Schmidt reacted twice at half -time to bring fresh wind into the team.

Nelson Weiper extended the lead for Mainz early in the second half. After a counterattack, it was Burkardt again who provided the template for Weiper's goal. Heidenheim now pushed for the connection goal, but Robin Zentner in the goal of Mainz held several dangerous shots, including one in the 52nd minute of Mathias Honsak and shortly afterwards another by Marvin Pieringer in the 89th minute.

look at the statistics

The course of the game was also reflected in the statistics. The XGOALS figures showed that Mainz had a significantly better exploitation of opportunities: Heidenheim came to 0.77, while Mainz towered over at 2.17. Robin Zentner was particularly highlighted and collected 233 fantasy points, while Anthony Caci followed him with 213 points.

Heidenheim has seven points behind the saving place and stands before difficult games, including a second leg in the Conference League on February 20 against FC Copenhagen. At the same time, Mainz is preparing for another duel that will take place against FC St. Pauli on February 22nd.

In the overall view, Heidenheim, despite the committed efforts, remains in the relegation battle, while Mainz was able to take new hope for an international starting place. The next games will show whether both teams can make the necessary adjustments to achieve their season goals.
