Mainz SPD chooses new departments: Farewell to Großen and Lensch!

On Sunday, January 4, 2025, the party congress of the Mainz SPD took place. As part of this event, the successors were elected for the building head Marianne Grosse and the social director Eckart Lensch.

Marianne Grosse had previously announced her farewell from local politics to spend more time with her family. Eckart Lensch announced in December 2024 that he was not aiming for a second term. Both politicians, Grosse (62 years) and Lensch (64 years), are retired, with Groß said in the summer of 2024 that they were looking forward to pension.

new candidates for the departments

For the newly created department for school and culture, Ata Delbasteh, the chairman of the Mainz SPD. So far there is no opponent for him, so that his choice is likely to appear. Jana Schmöller, also chair of the Mainz SPD, has announced her candidacy for the Department of Social Affairs and Youth. For Schmöller, too, there seems to be no opponent.

Eckart Lensch was previously responsible for the areas of social affairs, school and youth. He explained that he was elected for eight years and that this was enough. The departments are re -cut in the course of the change, which also influences the personnel decisions of this election.

The Mainz SPD also beats Dr. Eckart Lensch as the new social department and plans to hand over the department for construction and cultural issues to Marianne Grossen, which has promoted significant construction projects in Mainz in the past. In the past, similar personnel proposals have already been made, as at the party congress in March 2017, when Lensch and great support had received great support for their candidates.
