Mass carambolage on the A3: eight injured and serious escape escape!
On Friday afternoon there was a serious Massenkarambolage on the A3 between the Wiesbaden motorway. The incident occurred at 2:43 p.m. and resulted in injuries to eight people, including a person with serious injuries. A Ford from Wietmarschen braked out of traffic, whereupon a taxi was behind it. A Dutch Volvo was also able to stop in time, but another Dutch Toyota drove to the Volvo, which triggered a chain reaction.
The collision imposed another collision between a Nissan Dutch, a Skoda from Limburg and a Nissan from Mainz. The 42-year-old driver of the Dutch Nissan suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized. While seven other people with minor injuries were brought to surrounding hospitals, the driver of the Ford, who had triggered the accident, simply continued after a short inspection of her undamaged vehicle and is determined due to an accident.
damage and effects
The estimated damage to property amounts to around 140,000 euros. The cleanup and accident recording led to a considerable traffic jam of up to eleven kilometers. All lanes were finally free around 5:45 p.m.
Comparable traffic safety problems were observed last year on the A3 near Würzburg, where on March 25, 2024 another Massenkarambolage took place. Around 40 vehicles were involved in this devastating accident, in which two people, a 52-year-old woman and a two-year-old child, lost their lives. A total of 27 people were injured, including a child in a critical condition. Here, too, distraction from a damaged vehicle was the trigger when the first rear-end collision triggered a domino effect.
relevance and consequences for traffic safety
The statistics on traffic accidents such as by Destatis are crucial for the analysis and improvement of traffic safety. This data provides information about the causes of accidents, those affected and the type of vehicles involved. They are a fundamental basis for future measures in legislation, traffic education as well as in road construction and vehicle technology.
The recurring incidents on motorways underline the need for a more intensive discussion about traffic safety and preventive measures to sustainably reduce the number of injuries and dead in road traffic.
