New living in Trier: Eleven climate -friendly rental apartments are created!
On April 25, 2025, the state of Rhineland-Palatinate announced a significant step towards social housing. A funding notice was handed over to support the new construction of eleven affordable and air conditioning rental apartments in Trier. This measure is in line with the goals of the federal funds that aim to create affordable living space and at the same time integrate climate -friendly technologies.
Finance and construction minister Doris Ahnen and ISB board member Dr. Ulrich Link presented the funding decision to Herbert Schacherer, the managing board of the WoBeben. This funding provides a loan of around 2.6 million euros, supplemented by non -repayable repayment grants of around 1.2 million euros. The new buildings are being built on Thyrsusstrasse and are bound to households with low incomes over a period of 30 years.

The new residential complex in Trier is not only a contribution to social urban development, but also sets standards in terms of sustainability. A photovoltaic system is installed to ensure tenant electricity, which should reduce both the energy costs for the residents and relieve the environment. The subsidized apartments are offered at a rental price of 7.45 euros per square meter.
Mayor Wolfram Leibe emphasized the importance of the project for a socially balanced urban development in Trier. Mayor Dirk Löwe also emphasized the positive change of the atmosphere in Trier Nord, which is promoted by such innovative residential projects. A total of four construction projects with 85 affordable apartments have been realized in Trier since 2014, whereby the current project in Thyrsusstrasse is the last component of this series.
affordable living space in Mainz
In parallel to the developments in Trier, Rhineland-Palatinate also promotes the modernization of 34 affordable rental apartments in Mainz. Four of the apartments were designed here to increase the quality of life and reduce the additional costs in existing buildings. In Mainz, Wohnbau Mainz GmbH also receives support from a loan of around 3.6 million euros and repayment grants of around 1 million euros from the investment and structure bank Rhineland-Palatinate (ISB).The funding notice in Mainz was given by Finance and Construction Minister Doris Ahnen, ISB board member Dr. Ulrich Link, the Mayor of Mainz Nino Haase and Mayor Christoph Hand. The apartments in Mainz are to be rented for households with medium -sized incomes at a rental price of 8.10 euros per square meter. These measures are aimed at covering the need for social living space and at the same time supporting the climate goals.
Overall, the initiative from Rhineland-Palatinate shows that social housing and climate protection can go hand in hand. The focus on affordable living space, which is accessible to various income groups, demonstrates the state's clear commitment to a socially just urban development.
