Schweitzer defends coalition agreement: Jusos call for improvements!
On April 15, 2025, Alexander Schweitzer, Prime Minister of Rhineland-Palatinate and a member of the SPD, made it clear that he decidedly rejected Jusos' claims for the coalition agreement. In a statement, he emphasized that the coalition agreement has already been completely negotiated and contains necessary compromises. This statement follows the criticism, which was expressed in particular by Juso boss Philipp Türmer, who sees the coalition agreement in the areas of work and migration as inadequate.
Schweitzer finds understanding of the concerns of the Jusos, but sees no better alternative to the current coalition of the Union and SPD. "A coalition agreement does not reflect 1-to-1 the program of a party," he explained. In addition, the Prime Minister emphasized that positive elements are included in the contract, above all the investment package, which he described as a milestone for the future development of the country.
member vote of the SPD
An important step is imminent: On Tuesday, the ten -day deadline for a membership vote on the coalition agreement begins. The result of this vote is expected on April 30th. Schweitzer said that the coalition agreement is an appropriate answer to the current challenges in the areas of infrastructure and security. He has a good feeling to promote this contract and think that the coalition earns a chance.
The Jusos, which represent the youth organization of the SPD, urge renegotiations and are eagerly waiting for the result of the membership vote. However, Schweitzer left no doubt that he is behind the coalition agreement and underlines its importance for the stability of the political landscape in Rhineland-Palatinate. "We have to pull together together," said his statement on the current situation.
