New Year's Eve in Rhineland-Palatinate: Security and consideration in fireworks chaos!

On December 30, 2024, hundreds of thousands of people in Rhineland-Palatinate look forward to their New Year's Eve. Municipalities and rescue workers are already in full swing to prepare for a busy night. The Interior Ministry of Rhineland-Palatinate has stated that no concrete hazards are currently known. The police will be present on places with many celebrating people on New Year's Eve and will use around 480 police officers, as in the previous year.

According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, firecrackers in some municipalities may only be burned down between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Some municipalities even have the opportunity to completely ban fireworks. In Mainz, it is asked to consider animals, especially near animal shelters and animal enclosures. Forbidden firecrackers are prohibited in the Rodderberg (Remagen) and Wachtberg nature reserve. In addition, the Rhineland-Palatinate State Hunting Association, not near forests, appeals to Böllern.

Special regulations in the cities

There are also considerable restrictions in Limburg, where a ban on fireworks in front of the cathedral and in the old town applies. The old Lahnbrücke will close. Cities have the authority to set up their own rules for fireworks, such as a ban near hospitals and old people's homes. Special firecrackers exist in Trier and Speyer, while Landau and Ludwigshafen have not issued any special rules for the firecracker. The consideration of animals is emphasized both in Mainz and in Ludwigshafen.

The Malteser aid service warns of the dangers that can arise from firecrackers, cold and alcohol. He appeals to people not to hinder rescue operations, since New Year's Eve traditionally is a busy time for the emergency services, often combined with injuries by fireworks. In addition, telephone counseling is preparing for calls from lonely and depressed people.

preparation for New Year's Eve

The trade supervision checked the sales outlets of pyrotechnics every year before New Year's Eve. This campaign is carried out nationwide and adapted to new European regulations for market surveillance. The focus of the review is quantity restrictions in storage and sales rooms as well as requirements for fire protection and the labeling of pyrotechnics, which, for example, must include the BAM test number and CE marking.

In view of security, warnings have also been expressed: rocket shots should never be aimed at humans or animals, and children and young people should never handle pyrotechnics without supervision. The self -construction of fireworks is prohibited and represents a significant danger. In addition, municipalities can enact local or regional burn -off bans, and the purchase of fireworks at flying dealers, especially abroad, is advised. Safety instructions for handling fireworks must be observed.
