Werder Bremen: Kaboré before the debut - Mainz as a guest in the Weser Stadium!
On January 30, 2025, SV Werder Bremen is preparing for the upcoming Bundesliga game against the 1st FSV Mainz 05. The kick -off is on January 31 at 8:30 p.m. in the Weser Stadium. The match is transmitted live on television and in livestream. Coach Ole Werner is about to decide whether ISSA Kaboré, who only joined the squad in January 2025, will be in the starting eleven. Kaboré has acted four times as a substitute for Bremen and could now make his debut right from the start.
Kaboré is described by his trainer as fully integrated and has internalized the processes of the team well. In Kaboré and Derrick Köhn, Werner sees two promising candidates for the full -back. While Kaboré has impressive one-on-one ability, Köhn is characterized by his superior flanks and passports, which also makes the coach's decision more difficult. Both players bring good speed and defensive behavior, which makes them valuable options.
injury updates and team constellation
Marvin Ducksch will probably be in the starting eleven after he has recovered his fitness. If the possibility arises, Niklas, who recently cure a cold, could move into the triple chain in front of goalkeeper Michael Zetterer. Captain Marco Friedl and Anthony Jung are set. Mitchell wiser is expected on the right side, while Leonardo Bittencourt could put on the double six for the blocked Jens Stage.
The offensive series is expected to be formed by Romano Schmid, Marvin Ducksch and Marco Grüll. With regard to the availability, Bremen has to complain about some injured players: Jens Stage is not eligible to play because of a yellow lock, Oliver Burke is fighting with a knee injury, Julian Malatini has calm problems, Keke Topp is in rehabilitation after a syndesmosis torn, and Felix Agg suffers from a training deficiency after an external volume.
Issa Kaboré: An emerging talent
Issa Kaboré, born on May 12, 2001 in Bobo-Dioulasso, has had an interesting career. He already played for several clubs, including Rahimo FC, KV Mechelen, there were Troyes, Manchester City, Olympique de Marseille, Luton Town and SL Benfica before he came to Werder Bremen in 2025. His previous experience in the Bundesliga is limited to four missions in which he has mainly proven himself as a substitute.
This season Kaboré has given two shots on the goal and played three passes into a shot. In the last game against Borussia Dortmund, which ended 2-2, he was in action for 30 minutes and showed remarkable statistics with 25 individual ball touches, 12 Tackle challenges (6 of them) and a distance covered by 3.9 km.
Now it remains to be seen whether Kaboré will be in the starting eleven and a further step in his still young career can be taken. In any case, coach Ole Werner seems to be willing to give Kaboré an opportunity, which further increases the anticipation for the duel against Mainz.
