Accidents with an S-Bahn: Fallen trees provide chaos in the region!

On Christmas Day, an accident occurred in Poggenhagen between an S-Bahn and a car. A 61-year-old driver collided with a fallen tree on the district road between Neustadt and Poggenhagen at 9:15 p.m. The tree lay across the road and the crown protruded to the parallel railway line Hannover - Bremen. The driver of the S-Bahn could not brake in time and rammed the tree. Fortunately, the driver, the train driver and all passengers remained unharmed. However, the driver was brought to the clinic for control because her small car was under the tree to the windscreen.

The impact caused a very loud noise, as residents reported. The street and the railway line were closed for several hours. To ensure that train traffic could be resumed, the S-Bahn then had to be towed. The railway line has been passable again since Friday, 10:05 a.m. Zeitung reported.

additional information from Berlin-Spandau

In the meantime, another incident occurred in Berlin-Spandau on the same day, in which an S-Bahn S9 line drove against a fallen tree. The accident happened at around 4:00 a.m. in the direction of Spandau, not far from the Pichelsberg train station. Here the tree was in an elongated curve, which made it impossible for the train driver to brake. Fortunately, there were no injuries here either. The tree was sawn and removed by Deutsche Bahn employees in the morning. The S-Bahn traffic between Spandau and Olympic Stadium was recorded again at 7:00 a.m. Passengers of the S3 and S9 had to count on delays until the morning, such as rbb24 reported.
