Currywurst and chocolate: a culinary spectacle in Neuwied!

In Neuwied there is an exciting culinary festival that combines the tastes of currywurst and chocolate. From Friday to Sunday, the city of Neuwied expects around 30,000 visitors to visit the Currywurst and Chocolart festival. The event has been organized in Neuwied since 2007 and has developed into an important attraction from a few snack stands.

stand operator Herbert Meyer takes the taste combination of currywurst and sweet chocolate seriously. It offers a unique combination that combines the beloved currywurst with a chocolate sauce and pistachios. This creation is supplemented by in -house curry sauce and pistachio cream, angel hair and pistachio nuclei. Another original solution is the Mac and Cheese Currywurst, inspired by American charity events.

diverse tastes and creative combinations

The festival offers its visitors a culinary world tour. In addition to Meyers specialized offers, a large number of regional and international variations are also presented. The currywurst "Switzerland" comes up with a cheese-cream sauce and ham cubes, while the "Scotland" variant is enthusiastic with whiskey sauce and oranges. The "Thailand" currywurst ensures an exotic taste, which is served with a peanut sauce and chilli threads. The "Japan" currywurst offers a unique experience with samurais sauce and crab chips.

In addition, there is a particularly sharp currywurst on the menu, which was designed with five million scoville for adventurous people. Last year nine people took up this challenge. It is important to mention that despite the trend towards extremely sharp curry sausages, Meyer observes that the demand for it decreases.

chocolate meets curry

The Chocolart, the largest chocolate festival in Germany, complements the event. Here visitors can stroll over 18 stands with the best chocolate products. From chocolate tools to chocolates to special chocolate liqueur, sweet tooths find a wide selection. The Chocolart has its roots in Tübingen and has been very popular since 2006. The Neuwieder Agregner celebrated its premiere in April 2019 and has been enjoying growing encouragement since then.

Especially since last year, when corona -related cancellations burdened the event calendar, the city of Neuwied is determined to permanently establish the two festivals. This is done not least by the representation of the individual stands, which complement each other. The festival not only offers classic sausage products, but also chocolate variations such as currywurst ice cream and marzipan sausages.

events and activities

In addition to the culinary delights, various activities also take place. A highlight is the "ExtraWurst 2024" competition on Friday, in which the participants can eat most curry sausages. On Sunday, a Sunday open for sales attracts the shops around Luisenplatz. A chocolate workshop is also offered on Friday to bring the art of chocolate production closer.

The opening times of the festival are Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you want to travel from further, you will find good accessibility through car and public transport at Luisenplatz, as well as various parking facilities in the area.
