Neuwied receives a new rescue station: quick help for blocks and Engers!

The city of Neuwied approved the Malteser Hilfsdienst's application to improve emergency services at short notice. This applies in particular to the districts of Block, Heimbach-Weis and Engers. In order to meet the requirements of the population, provisional containers in the Block district were set up, which act as the new rescue station. This measure is a reaction to an investigation from 2024, which revealed that the existing locations for ambulances (RTW) in the city center and upper bieber were not sufficient to ensure adequate care. The competent authority then commissioned the Maltese with the establishment of a new guard in the block.

The new rescue station started operating on April 1, 2025. The Maltese have been active in the Distrophes Protection of the Neuwied district for many years and are now expanding their commitment in medical civil protection through the integration into the public service emergency services. A modernized ambulance with the radio call name "Johannes Neuwied 17/83-1" is now stationed on the new guard and will be ready for use 365 days a year. The additional rescue station is intended to significantly improve the quick supply in emergencies.

provisional solutions and future outlook

The rescue station is currently accommodated in a container system from modular construction. This temporary solution is expected to remain for about two years, while the construction of a permanent rescue station near the current location will be promoted in parallel. The planning of the new building focuses on optimal conditions for the emergency services of the Neuwieder Malteser to ensure both efficiency and occupational safety.

The vehicles at the new location are equipped with the latest technology and correspond to the current standard of the Rhineland-Palatinate emergency services. This comprehensive modernization of the ambulances ensures that the Maltese can react quickly and effectively in an emergency to maximize life rescue.
