Neuwied opens up new refugee accommodation: a ray of hope for 264 people!
On Monday, March 28, 2025, a new refugee accommodation in Neuwied-Block will be put into operation. More than 260 people who were previously temporarily housed in a sports hall move to the new facility. Mayor Peter Jung welcomes the opening of the accommodation, which is designed as a container construction and offers space for up to 264 people. First, 60 refugees, mainly from Syria, Afghanistan and Turkey, will move in. The reporting of SWR emphasizes that all the necessary attachments, including kitchen, sanitary facilities and common rooms with television, are provided.
The accommodation consists of three plants, each with 88 residential containers, which are arranged in a semicircle. In the middle there is a green place that is equipped with benches and play equipment. This design is intended to promote a sense of community and facilitate integration into society to the new residents. The German Red Cross is acted as an operator and security is guaranteed by a security company that is responsible for the admission controls.
integration concept and long -term planning
The city of Neuwied has developed a comprehensive integration concept that provides for the integration of local associations and institutions. A refugee café, sports and club offers as well as low-threshold language courses are planned. These measures are intended to help the refugees to integrate into the community faster and learn the language.
The background of the construction of the new accommodation are complex. The number of refugees has risen sharply since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict, which not only makes the admission of these people necessary, but has also led to increased tension on the housing market. The city has decided to use an area in block that is owned by the city and already has the necessary supply infrastructure, such as nr-kurier
costs and financing
The city originally estimated 2.5 million euros for the construction of the refugee accommodation, whereby the operating costs will be around 5.5 million euros annually. These costs are fully borne by the Neuwied district and refinanced by federal and state funds. The containers are initially rented for three years, with the option for a two -year extension, in order to be able to react appropriately to the constantly changing situation. In summary, it can be said that Neuwied with the new refugee accommodation takes a step in the right direction in order to meet the needs of the refugees and the local population. The planning and implementation of the integration concept shows the city's commitment to create a sustainable and supportive environment.Details | |
