Neuwied's bus traffic: Changed lines and timetables ensure vertebrae!
The city of Neuwied made comprehensive changes to bus traffic last year that came across mixed reactions. These innovations were explained in an information event by the city and the Neuwied district, whereby the focus was on improving public transport (public transport). After the summer holidays in 2024, the bus timetables and lines were fundamentally changed. Before that, most of the bus lines commuted between the city center and the surrounding districts, but now they directly connect the districts.
In the course of the adjustments, there are still intermediate stops at the train station and in the city center. The reactions to these changes were mostly critical because many passengers miss the usual connections. The new structure should take into account the dense clock and the longer operating hours. From August 26, 2024, a new city traffic will start in the Neuwied district, which will offer a widened variety of trips.
new lines and restructuring
The new traffic plan includes the introduction of diameter lines 61 and 62 that combine cities and districts via the city. This reduces the journeys through the city center to accelerate traffic. All existing lines receive new numbers, with the deviations for weekend lines. Lines 65 and 66 act as feeders for the main lines, which were planned specifically with coordinated changeover times.
meaning of public transport for the region
public transport plays a crucial role as an economic and location factor, not only in larger metropolitan areas, but also in medium-sized and small cities like Neuwied. According to the Environmental Federal Agency , public transport is an integral part of the cityscape and shapes the identity of the municipalities. In view of increasing environmental pollution and traffic volumes, there is a strong interest in continuously improving and expanding public transport.
The measures aim to promote environmentally friendly mobility that consumes fewer resources. Technical innovations and reforms in public transport financing should ensure more transparency and efficiency. It is also important that public transport is perceived as a real alternative to the car in order to increase the proportion of passengers and to promote environmentally friendly transport options.
