75 years NKC: A festival full of memories and future visions!
The Nassauer Kanu Club 1950 e.V. (NKC) celebrated its 75th anniversary last weekend with a festive event on the Lahn. Around 100 guests, including members and invited guests of honor, gathered in order to honor this important milestone in the club's history. Chairman Kalli Wiemann held an emotional speech in which he looked back at the beginning of the association and its development over the years.
The NKC was founded in the summer of 1950 by 40 committed citizens in the Hotel Nassauer Hof. The first canoe regatta took place on the initiative of the traffic association. The early days included the use of folding boats, which have been replaced over the years by modern wood, fiber optic and carbon boats. Today the club has an impressive fleet of 80 boats, including the historical "flagship", which was purchased in 1957 and named after the late honorary chairman Edmund Noll.
traditions and developments
A planned anniversary trip with the "Lahnarche" unfortunately had to be canceled due to a technical defect. Nevertheless, Wiemann looked back on important highlights of the past few years, such as the introduction of the dragon boat regatta in the 2000s. The NKC is not only known for its sporting activities, but also offers its members seven stand-up paddle boards free of charge. This shows the variety of activities and the endeavor of the association to expand the water sports offer.
The remarkable milestones in club history is the construction of the first boathouse in 1955, followed by an extensive expansion in the 1980s. 20 years ago, the NKC counted only 70 members, today it increased to a proud 150 members. Wiemann took the opportunity to thank the committed helpers and sponsors of the association, in particular the founding member Inge Noll.
greetings and outlook
During the celebrations, Uli Pebler, first city councilor, district administrator Jörg Denninghoff, and Gisela Bertram, first deputy of the community of Bad Ems-Nassau, and Monika Sauer, President of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Sports Association. The representatives of other Nassau clubs and companions of water sports congratulated the NKC and appreciated its significant role in the city's life.An emotional highlight was the "run of hearts", which symbolized the connection between the members and the community in the association. A look into the future of the NKC is considered promising and colorful, which indicates the continuing passion and commitment of those responsible and members.
The ceremony started on April 26, 2025 at 2 p.m. on the Lahn Arche and then led to the boathouse, where the celebrations were continued at Essen and Drink. Information on further events of the NKC for 2025 is available on the club website, which is also reminiscent of the future planning and the constant activity of the club.
