New association in Altendiez: quick help for disaster cases!

On March 25, 2025, the association "Emergency Aid Region St.-Peter e.V." founded. The aim of the new association is to provide quick and unbureaucratic help in the event of a disaster. The reason for the foundation was the difficulties that were observed in the help of anxiety in past accidents. The association is based in Altendiez and already has a committed board, which includes Bettina Schneider as chairman, Petra Hofmann as deputy chair, Rainer again as secretary, Volker Schellong as treasurer and Frederik Schuler as an assessor.

In addition, the association is one of its first supporters of eleven other active members who are committed to supporting citizens in the Diez association and special charitable institutions.

The importance of humanitarian immediate help

After a disaster, the immediate help is crucial to save lives. This phase begins immediately after the event. Aid organizations, such as the organizations working as part of allies, are in constant exchange and coordinate their measures. Thanks to existing country offices, you can fall back on already established structures. The focus of the immediate aid includes the supply of food and drinking water (food), basic medical care (health), as well as sanitary and hygiene supply (wash).

In addition, the protection of people against weather, ceilings, tents and sanitary facilities plays a central role. Protection of people from attacks (Protection) is just as important. This immediate aid phase can last for several weeks to months and is followed by a rehabilitation and reconstruction phase, the goal of which is to restore the livelihood and return to stable living conditions.

reconstruction and disaster prevention

In the foreground, measures such as the reconstruction of destroyed buildings and infrastructures, the repair of water and power supply as well as the distribution of tools and seeds are in the foreground in the reconstruction phase. Programs such as "Cash-For-Work" help to make the support sustainably. A central principle is "Built Back Better", which means that new standards are set in recovery in order to be able to better counter future disasters.

In addition, disaster prevention is of the utmost importance to avoid humanitarian disasters. Preventive measures include the development of emergency and evacuation plans in cooperation with the local population, training courses on behavior in earthquakes, as well as first aid courses. The planting of mangroves to defend storms and floods and the construction of earthquake -proof houses also contribute to increasing the resistance of humans. The aim of these measures is to save lives and to better prepare the communities for future challenges.

In the consideration of all of these aspects, it becomes clear how important it is to be prepared for an emergency and how organizations such as the newly founded association "Emergency Aid Region St.-Peter e.V." can play a central role in the fastest possible help.
